Bildfinal game
The 5th Equinox Spring Go tournament was held in Hotel Viktor, Bratislava, from 20th to 21st of march 2015. There were 30 players playing in the tournament from 20 kyu to 3 dan strength, this time, only players from Slovakia.
The tournament system was 4 rounds, MacMahon, and all the games were played with handicap (reduced handicap -2). To play with handicap is quite common in Slovakia, that was the reason I did not participate in the tournament. Of course, I played friendly games.

Game, that has decided the winner of the tournament was played between Maros Kral 3 dan and Xaver Gubas 3 dan, nr.3 and nr.4 in Slovak rating. Maros won the game by half a point, which is symbolic, because there was announced a special price in the tournament for losers of a game decided by half point, because of the spring equinox.

If you want to come to play Go in Slovakia, you are welcome, we have yearly about 10 tournaments.

EYGC 2015, Zandvoort aan Zee

EYGC 2015, Zandvoort aan Zee, The Netherlands.

The 20th European Youth Goe Championship was held in a small Dutch town, Zandvoort aan Zee, which is also called The beach of Amsterdam, this weekend, from 12th to 15th march, 2015. It is the second time, the EYGC was held there, I still remember the same place from 2007, when I played in the U18 category.

In the U12, U16 and the U20 categories all together 104 youngsters from 12 countries met. Parents and team leaders from many countries were there, officials from the EGF and also a representative of CEGO, Zhao Baolong 2p, from China, was there. This tournament was a good opportunity for EGF and the representatives of CEGO to look for young and promising prodigies, who would like to go to study Go in China in long term maybe even this year. Mr Ge Yuhong from China (one of the bosses of probably the best Go school in China) wants to support young Europeans and help them to be really strong in Go. I don't know what is the result right now, who will go and when. I hope I can inform you as soon as possible.

There are a few big talents who could become professionals in the future. In the U20 category, Grigorij Fionin from Russia, who is only 15 years old, a solid European 6 dan is very promising. In the U16 category there is Valerii Krushelnytskyi from Ukraine a 12 or 13 year old solid European 3 dan is very promising. Also 2 Russian players have talent: Stepan Popov 4 dan and Vjacheslav Kajmin 3 dan. In the U12 category, there were two players who were stronger than the rest of the field. It was Denis Dobranis, 1 dan from Romania, and Arved Pittner, 1dan from Germany. Denis managed to win their encounter. I think these kids have a big potential and are our future in Europe.

I must say, that the organisation was made perfectly by the Dutch organizers. There were announcements before the tournament and in Zandvoort everything was fine. The first board of U16 and U20 category was broadcasted by EuroGoTV (videos on
eurogotv.com). You can find the games on KGS under the accounts EuroGoTV1 and EuroGoTV2.

The organizers made more prices for the participants this year. The top players got nice presents from a sponsor. I got a brand new camera Nikon D5500 and Lukas Podpera got an iPad Air. The first two places in U16 and U12 also got very nice presents.

People qualified for the World Youth Goe Championship, Harbin, China (not the first places in the championship):
U12: Arved Pittner 1dan (DE), Virzhinia Shalneva 2kyu (RU), Miklos Csizmadia 7kyu (HU)
U16: Stepan Popov 5dan (RU), Johannes Walka 3dan (DE), Guillaume Ougier 1dan (FR)

After my last European Youth Go Championship, me, as the winner of the U20 category, I will represent Europe at the 2nd Globis Cup, Tokyo, Japan held
from 7th to 10th May 2015. I hope I can make a good result and show that the European Go has improved.
