The 2nd Globis Cup World Go U20 Championship was held from 8th to 10th of May 2015 in Tokyo, Japan. I was the representative from Europe, because I had become European Champion U20 back in March. I arrived on the 7th of May at Narita Airport in Tokyo and I was "lucky", I met a team of reporter's just after I came out from exit. They told me their name is "Why did you come to Japan?" (and later I got to know, that this is like the 3rd biggest TV-program in Japan, very famous amongst Japanese people) They asked me questions and at some point the question was: "Can we follow you on your trip here?" I told them they can, and they followed me almost everywhere I went for 3 days. I was probably interesting for them and I didn't have to do much that day, It was a nice coincidence. There will be a show, I will put a link when it will be ready.
More important, the next day the tournament had started. There were 2 games a day with time allowance of 10x30 seconds a move without any basic time. The games were very fast, average time of play was about 1 hour. This year the pairing system was changed and I was put to a group of seeded China, Korea and Japan. Which meant my chances of getting to the quarterfinals was small.
I played against Yang Dinxin 3p in the first round, I resigned when losing about komi. My second opponent was Fujimura Yosuke 2p, the game went quite good for me and I had many chances to win the game, but my opponent could read faster with the time settings and it was not enough. So I was eliminated after the first day.
I had two days free, I went to visit places in Tokyo, a Go do-jo in Tokyo, the Nihon Ki-in and other places. The people in Japan are very friendly and nice, the food is delicious and not so expensive. Japan is a good place. I also had time to watch the finals of the tournament, where Na Hyun 6p was beaten by Huang Yinsong 4p from China. My flight was directly to Beijing to play China City League C.
